Westlakes Scientific Consulting has a strong aquatics sciences team comprising experts in freshwater, marine and estuarine processes with a broad range of modelling and applied experience on the impact and fate of liquid effluent discharges in the environment. 
  
A key strength is the application of 2-Dimensional hydrodynamic modelling to investigations of the dispersion of contaminants in the vicinity of liquid effluent outfalls in complex settings. We have extensive experience in the application of these models in the Solway Firth, Teeside, the Cumbrian coast and the Ribble estuary. 
  
WSC has also developed an in-house model, MEAD, which has been applied to modelling the transport of radionuclides in the Irish Sea and their associated impacts on humans. The use of the POSEIDON model (developed by CEPN, France) allows us to carry out similar investigations in all European seas.  
   
This experience combined with an up-to-date knowledge of current environmental legislation, has been applied to assist clients from various industry sectors to successfully apply for discharge authorisations from the UK regulators. In addition, we provide the following services:
