| Environmental Science - Water Quality |
| |
| We have a strong Aquatic Sciences group comprising experts in freshwater, marine and estuarine processes with a broad range of modelling and applied experience on the impact and fate of liquid effluent discharges in the environment. |
| |
| The intelligent use of environmental models throughout the group is key for its commercial and academic success. One of our main strengths is the application of 2-Dimensional hydrodynamic modelling to investigations of the dispersion of contaminants in the vicinity of liquid effluent outfalls in complex settings. We have extensive experience in the application of these models in the Solway Firth, Teeside, the Cumbrian coast and the Ribble estuary. |
| |
| We have also developed an in-house model, MEAD, which has been applied to modelling the transport of radionuclides in the Irish Sea and their associated impacts on humans. The use of the POSEIDON model (developed by CEPN, France) allows us to carry out similar investigations in all European seas. |
|
|
|
| |
 |
| This experience combined with an up-to-date knowledge of current environmental legislation, has been applied to assist clients from various industry sectors to successfully apply for discharge authorisations from the UK regulators. In addition, we provide the following services: |
| |
- Specialist advice and modelling services for marine, estuarine and fluvial discharges using MIKE11, MIKE21 EcoS VERSE and MEAD.
- Provision of emergency modelling in response to accidental releases.
- Support for discharge applications including EQS, OSPAR and IPPC.
- Investigation of the effect of industrial discharges on non-human species.
- Biokinetic modelling of radionuclides in marine biota.
- Monitoring and modelling for Environmental Litigation.
- Tracer studies for improving model performance.
- Support to the fish farming industry.
