| Professor Steve Jones "Kyshtym and Windscale - a double anniversary" (11th October 2007) |

| Professor Jones' lecture explored the events surrounding the Kyshtym accident at the Mayak nuclear complex in the USSR on 29th September 1957 and the Windscale fire in Pile No 1 at Sellafield on 10th-11th October 1957. |

| Professor Jones explained the sequence of events and underlying causes of each accident, and described and compared the environmental effects of the accidents. He compared the legacies of the two accidents in terms of present day environmental contamination and also the experience and scientific knowledge that had been gained from them. |
