Events, Conferences, Public Lectures

Events, conferences and lectures are embraced within our Outreach Programme - an important vehicle to achieve the charitable aims of the organisation. The purpose of the programme is to raise awareness of science and its role within today’s society. It also provides an outlet for professional debate within the organisation specialist areas of health, science, the environment and related fields.

Events
Events, generally take place during National Science Week, embrace anything from key speakers delivering focussed scientific talks through to half or full education days with hands-on activities for local secondary and primary schools.

Conferences
Conferences are focussed on our areas of expertise and attract speakers from throughout the country to this locality offering a forum to address issues within our areas of expertise. The 2003 programme included a national conference on nuclear decommissioning and one on the impact of public opinion on genetic research and its application to healthcare.

Public Lectures
Lectures for the public feature in our “Talking Science” programme. In partnership with local professional societies the lectures are free and provide stimulating and authoritative talks on topical themes on a monthly basis during Winter, Spring and Autumn.

Details of previous Events, Conferences and Public Lectures can be found in the new Archive section.
