| Westlakes
Research Institute is an educational charity with
a mission to provide Higher Education in West Cumbria,
to stimulate knowledge based businesses and thereby
to assist economic regeneration in our region. |

| At
WRI our staff have considerable skills and experience
in Environmental Sciences and Healthcare Informatics
and we use these to research impacts of economic,
social and environmental pressures on the health
of communities. Through this research on current
and past situations we are able to advise on strategies
for the remediation of industrial sites into the
future. Of particular interest is the long-term
remediation of nuclear sites – we have the
Sellafield nuclear complex in our locality and we
have in-depth knowledge of the potential impacts
on Man and the environment that may result from
decommissioning these facilities. WRI is at the
centre of studies into environmental restoration
of the nuclear industry – our skills and experience
have a wider application to the restoration of sites
impacted by other industrial processes. |

| Westlakes
Scientific Consulting Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary
of Westlakes Research Institute and it undertakes
contract research and consultancy services on behalf
of a wide range of customers, both in the UK and
overseas. Profits from the consultancy business
are an important income stream to the charity. High
quality and robust scientific investigation characterise
both the commercial company and the charity. |
