New Radioecology PhD Student

We are pleased to welcome Sandeep Kadam to Westlakes, who has joined us to undertake a PhD in Radioecology. This PhD is jointly funded by the NDA and the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority. WSC staff Prof. Paul McDonald and Dr. J. Vives i Batlle are co-supervisors for the project.
This PhD is an important part of the development of the international system for protection of wildlife from ionising radiation. Its main aim is to provide direct data and models that can represent this uptake and turnover of radionuclides by organisms, and the radiation doses arising from this. It is expected that the results from this study will make radiological assessments more realistic, and will highlight the potential for future studies further refine these assessments.
