UCLan Westlakes Launch
Officially launched on 4th October 2005 by vice-chancellor Dr Malcolm McVicar, UCLan Westlakes heralds a new era of university education opportunities in West Cumbria. In the presence of NDA's chairman Sir Anthony Cleaver and Chief Executive Dr Ian Roxburgh and our two MPs, Tony Cunningham and Jamie Reed, Malcolm emphasised the importance of re-skilling and life long learning opportunities for the current workforce engaged in nuclear operations and decommissioning.
Looking to the future West Cumbria, with its highly skilled workforce and developing experience of decommissioning complex industrial facilities, can become a national centre of excellence for decommissioning, able to tackle complex problems throughout the World.
In this knowledge economy, continual refreshment of the skills base, application of new information from research and problems tackled are paramount - West Cumbria now has this capacity in the new UCLan Westlakes campus.
