NI 185 CO2 Reduction Services
NI 185 is a local government performance framework that requires local authorities to calculate and report their yearly carbon emissions from their buildings and services, including those that have been outsourced. For the year 2008/2009, calculations are to be completed and reports submitted to DEFRA by July 2009.
Westlakes Scientific Consultancy is able to offer local authorities expert guidance on developing and implementing processes and strategies, data collection services, production of regulatory reports and stakeholder communication support.
Additional Information
NI 185 aims to help local authorities measure their progress in reducing CO2 emissions from the buildings and transport, etc. that they use to deliver services to the communities they serve. In doing so, it places the public sector at the forefront of efforts to meet government targets on CO2 emissions. Under NI 185, the public sector is now uniquely placed to encourage and demonstrate leadership in tackling climate change and will be better able to support residents and local businesses in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions. By understanding their own impact on the environment and reducing their carbon footprint through in-house reductions on CO2 emissions, local authorities are better able to set an example to both the businesses and communities they serve.
