EU FP6 : ALPHA-RISK (http://www.alpha-risk.org)
WSC is the Project Leader for Work Package 4 (WP4) of the ALPHA-RISK project and a partner in Work Package 3 (WP3).
- WP3 is a case control study of the lung cancer and leukaemia mortality experience of EU nuclear workers in relation to their occupational exposures to plutonium and uranium taking into account smoking information.
- WP4 is a project to examine the feasibility of undertaking a cancer and non-cancer mortality study of UK (BNFL Sellafield and Springfields) and French (CEA-AREVA) plutonium and uranium workers

WSC is co-leading on Work Package 2.5 (WP2.5) and involved in WP2.1 and WP2.2 of the SOuthern UraLs project, SOUL. WP2.5 has established the feasibility of the study of cancer incidence in the Mayak Production Association nuclear workers. The actual study to relating the cancer incidence experience of the Mayak workers to their occupational exposures to both plutonium and external radiation doses is currently underway.
European Union Euratom Seventh Framework Programme : EU FP7
Mid November 2008 there will be a Euratom EU FP7 announcement which will include follow-on work for the Southern Urals projects. WSC is working with partners in SOUL to secure further EU funding under this Euratom call.
